Artist Website Research

After finishing my Digipak the next task for me is to design, build and publish a website. But to start with I have been researching other artists websites to get an idea of what is common.

The first website I found interesting was Avicii's website.

Avicii's is a good website to look at since he is in the same genre as my artist. His website uses the scroll down picture effect, which is a very popular template at the moment due to its modern slick style.

His logo is placed in the top left on every page, this is because of recent studies which show a humans gaze always starts at the top left much like reading, so this is what Avicii wants his audience to see each time. And an advertisement for his new single is centred right in the middle of the first page so it is the first thing the visitor see's. He has used the same album art on his website so that it is easily recognisable.

Kanye West's website is completely different on the other hand.

It is very similar to his digipak's design, it is minimalist, dark and artistic. He has no pages on his website just one homepage and on it is only a video of him performing a live version of his new song, and a picture of his new digipak.

Lastly I had a look at Calvin Harris's website, again he is an electro music producer so it would be useful to look at what his website looks like.

Harris's Website is similar to Avicii's in that they both use the picture scroll down design. He also has his new single on display on the home page and his logo is present on every page at the top of the website. He has many pages which include contact details, live tour dates, gallery, news etc.

Having researched all these websites I have decided to base my website around what I have seen as the typical conventions used by electro music artists websites. For example my RAYGE logo will be present on every page near the top left so that my audiences gaze will see it first. I will have my D.A.N.C.E. music video present on the home page as the first thing. And I will include things such as contact details, news, and tour dates.
